Project Title: How Effective Are Albuquerque's Water Conservation Plans?

Abstract
Interim
Final Report

Water is a very precious resource in the arid climate of New Mexico and we have to keep close watch on our usage to try and preserve it. Recently Albuquerque has implemented a number of conservation projects and Mayor Baca has proposed using the San Juan/Chama project to allow the city to use treated Rio Grande water for drinking. Our project is to create a model which would allow us to predict how effective these plans will be. Students at Bosque School, working in conjunction with the University of New Mexico, have been collecting data for the Bosque Ecosystem Monitoring Project (BEMP) since 1996. Using the BEMP data, as well as other resources, this project will evaluate current water conservation plans and predict what the water levels/quality will be over the next several years. We predict that the water conservation plans will be effective and that the water levels will become safer for a growing population in a metropolitan area.
