Challenge Team Abstract
The current well water is endanger of being overrun with brine, water used in cleaning oil wells, from seeping in the ground and polluting the wells. This is a very important topic where we live. With water being an essential element to life and the current water supply being in ever-growing demand, we need to fix the problem now while we still can. With the oil fields being so wide spread and using huge amounts of water, which most of it is used in cleaning and other things, it also drains the water table down significantly. Ranchers use the water for their cattle and irrigation ditches along with the everyday use by the average individual. With the current water usage and having so few wells that are dependable and no other source of water, like a major river or stream, we need to use the super computer to try to figure out when the water will be so polluted from the oil wells that it is unfit for human or agricultural use. We will also suggest ways that we can reduce the usage and pollution of our local aquifers, which are the lifelines of our community and the world. This technology will help us to see the total effect on our ecosystem, along with human life. Possible effects are that as people move to better wells and leave the ground dry and bare and the water that is left non-polluted will probably be use in a short amount of time. Worst case effects could be that the area could no longer support life. Huge sandstorms could blanket the area and become a miniature Sahara Desert.
