    Project Title: Asthma

Abstract
Interim
Final Report

Asthma is a chronic disorder characterized by wheezing, coughing, difficulty in breathing, and a suffocating feeling.

The symptoms of asthma includes a wheezing or whistling sound from the chest when the patient inhales and even greater wheezing when he/she exhales. The importance of asthma is that it is a most harmful and disabling respiratory allergy. The cause of asthma is the pollution in the air, house dust, and certain foods. The climate for patients with asthma is a damp climate. Asthma causes death in humans if they have no way to get their medication. So in our area there is a high percentage of patients at risk because we have two power plants, the San Juan Power Plant and Arizona Public Service Power Plant, which are within fifteen miles of Shiprock. These power plants have been recognized as the primary contributors to air pollution. The hospital intends to be in touch with the patients that have asthma. Living with a patient who has asthma is to watch over them and have their medication in a reachable distance.

We are going to try and obtain results from Northern Navajo Medical Center and try to reduce the symptoms of asthma.
