Challenge Team Abstract
We are going to do a predator prey concept. The reason we are going to do this project is because we are interested in how many rabbits will still be alive after a certain amount of time. The program we are looking to create will demonstrate how the population of one species will react on an other species that will be simulated to be eaten. Since rabbits are one of the most eaten items by a coyote, we have decided to use that item for that reason. By simulating this we could get an item of how many items a certain thing needs to eat,to produce a certain amount of energy. This energy will enable a predator to get a certain amount of energy by eating that item. Since the predator/coyote will eat the prey/rabbit, the population of the species will go up and down until one runs out that will cause the item to have to find a new source of food. We could see how long it would take 30 coyotes to eat 45 rabbits. Since the item would be forced to find new food, the population will go up and down. For example ranchers often raise cattle, and the coyote may begin to use the cattle as a main food source. We are planning to use a software program that we found on the Internet that will help simulate this program by eating and reproducing at a rate that can be changed by a user to calculate a percentage of an item. The program we are planing to use is called star logo. Star logo is a program that uses boxes called turtles to simulate its commands. The commands are what we will use to create our program. This program will be designed to be user friendly because young individuals will be writing it. Team Members Sponsoring Teachers Project Advisor(s) |
