Project Title: Model of Mexican Spotted Owl Population in New Mexico

Abstract
Interim
Final Report

The Mexican Spotted Owl is an endangered species in New Mexico. The spotted owl is endangered because of loss of habitat due to fire, logging, and human intervention in the natural environment. The spotted owl is a predator and is dependant on the rodent population for its food supply. The rodents are dependant upon the rainfall in the area.

We will research owl and rodent populations as well as the rainfall to determine the factors that influence the habitat. This data can be found within the Forest Service, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the internet as well as other sources. We will use this data to build a computer model that predicts the population of the Mexican Spotted Owl as a funtion of changes in habitat. For example, we may try to predict the owl population based on predicted logging rates in the habitat.
