Biographical SketchKaren G. HainesPostDoctoral Fellow - Albuquerque High Performance Computing CenterKaren G. Haines recently completed her Ph.D in Electrical Engineering at the University of New Mexico. She received her Masters in Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University and her Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics at the University of Calfornia, San Diego. Her recent research efforts have lead to the development of a parallel motion detection algorithm which is based on the fly's visual processing system. This work relied on distrubuted parallel programming and advanced scientific visualization methods. Other research interests of Miss Haines include computational modelling, motion detection, image processing, high performance computing, and scientific visualization. Miss Haines currently holds a research position at the Albuquerque High Performance Computing Center (AHPCC). At the center, she is responsible for providing workshops and guidance in the area of Scientific Visualization. She is the Director of the IEEE Neural Network Council's Summer Institute on Computational Intelligence. This is a week-long summer program which affords the opportunity to learn about methods in computational intelligence. She is the current Education Committee Chair on the IEEE Neural Network Council. Her extracurricular activities include soccer, swimming and running. |
