Project Title: Sun Wise Wizzardry
Project Abstract for Sun Wise Wizzardry:
What the problem is:
How does the calculation of the UV Index equate to our exposure
and health?
The definition of the problem:
We have a UV Index and sunscreen. We don't have an understanding
of how they equate into robust health or deadly cancers. Our mission is to
root out those stats and determine how it really relates to our health.
Solving the problem computationally involves the increase of UV per
kilometer above sea level, clear skies vs overcast conditions varying from
100% to 31%, scaling by a conversion factor of 25 and rounding to the
nearest whole number which gives a number from 0 to the teens which would
be the UV Index for a given city.
A description of the progress you have made up to this time:
We are using Inspiration to create a concept map about corrolating
UV Index to health. We want our computational program to allow the user to
type in certain variables as percent of cloud coverage and elevation above
sea level. It will then use these variables to estimate the UV Index and
will output the level of exposure and some possible health affects at that
level. PowerPoint is being prepared for presentation.
Results we expect to get is a program that allows you to input
corresponding data that will in turn reveal exposure risks. Variables may
include location and time in the sun.
