Project Title: Brittle object collision using smooth particle
hydrodynamics
Using SPH, smooth particle hydrodynamics*, we will attempt to construct a
program that can accurately predict the interaction between two colliding
objects. Mainly we will focus on brittle materials. First we will create a
two dimensional simulation of the objects collision, then correct as
necessary. Once we have finished with that we can then move to a three
dimensional representation of the collision. As necessary we will do our
own tests with actual objects to test the representations created by our
program.
*Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics is a gridless particle method for solving
the Lagrangian equations of hydrodynamics. Instead of using grids to
represent objects it considers the particles in the object and uses those
in the equation to accurately describe the motion.
