AiS Challenge Team Abstract
Team Number: 033
School Name: Highland Highschool
Area of Science: Computer Science
Project Title: Visual Grouping and Object Recognition
This project addresses two central problems in artificial vision: grouping
and recognition. Grouping is the partitioning of the image or video stream
into regions/spatiotemporal volumes, each corresponding to a single object
or part of an object. Recognition is the process of labeling the objects
in the scene that caused the image; this could be at category level
(e.g. human face) or individual level (e.g. Bill Clinton's face). This
project could be of interest to several audiences. In areas of biological,
computer vision, artificial intelligence, or machine learning, grouping,
figure-ground and recognition are central research problems. We hope to
utilize and improve several key methods used by researchers in the field
of artificial vision. Our language of choice will be C++, implementing MPI
technology whenever possible.
