AiS Challenge Scholarships

Each AiS Challenge year, scholarships may be awarded based on qualities demonstrated by individuals applying for the Scholarship Program. These scholarships are not automatic, and students wishing to be considered MUST apply. Application details are in the AiS Challenge Handbook, as well as at the bottom of this page.

Note: Only Juniors and Seniors are Eligible to Apply

Flexible Scholarships

  • Amy Beth Boulanger Memorial Scholarship: Four years/$2,400 per year - presented by New Mexico Technet to any accredited institution of higher education in the US

  • One time $3,000 Scholarship from Compaq will be awarded to a senior from one of the following counties: Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, Sandoval, San Miguel, Santa Fe, and Taos. This is a need based scholarship which can be used at any university in the US.

  • One time $2,500 Scholarship from Intel to any accredited institution of higher education in New Mexico

  • One time $500 Scholarship from New Mexico CHECS to any member institution in New Mexico. This scholarship will be awarded randomly to a student or teacher in attendance at Awards Day.


All scholarship applicants are subject to the following:

  • Pursue a science, engineering or mathematics major.

  • Meet the university GPA requirements.

  • Amy Beth Boulanger Memorial Scholarship and Compaq scholarship are restricted to seniors.

Any junior or senior student wishing to be considered for a scholarship award MUST submit the following by April 3rd, 2002:

A letter describing his/her contribution to the team project with an emphasis on the specific areas of leadership. The sponsoring teacher MUST endorse the team member's letter and outline the qualities and examples from the teacher's perspective. The Project Advisor and/or other team members may also provide supporting statements of this individual's role and contribution to the team effort. It is the responsibility of the teacher to ensure that all documentation, including supportive statements, are mailed in a separate envelope to:

Note: Do not include any other team project documentation with this application.

Based on receipt of the above information, the scholarship competitors will be invited to appear before a panel of AiS Challenge judges to present their qualities in conjunction with the team project. This is a general discussion session with questions and answers. The judges will have already received the application, supporting documents and the team project. Scholarship competitors will appear before the panel of judges on the day before the awards ceremony in Los Alamos.
