Interim Report

The project for the Animas High School team for AiS is WarTic. WarTic is a battle form of tic-tac-toe. The basic point is to get three in a row. Now there is a twist in the game. Instead of choosing a spot on the grid and that is that, now the X's and O's have to fight for their positions.

First, we started off by making a basic form of Tic-tac-toe. After that, color was added to the code. After that, we made a graphics editor, in which the graphics for the game were made. Then code was added for units to be able to enter into other squares and fight, but there was only one kind of unit and no special commands.

We almost scrapped the whole program to start over and make the game better. Now you can go inside a grid square and tell the special units to do special tasks. For example, peasants can gather resources and move around in the square, and warriors can warp to a different square to wage war.

In the beginning the X's choose their opening spot and then the O's have their turn. They have their first spot on the grid with a fortress and some units. Then, after one team gathers enough resources, then they can go into another square in the grid and build another fortress. If a team has 3 fortresses in a row, then they win.

X's can move their units into a square occupied by O's and challenge them. During the battle, units are lost, but the victor keeps the square. All in all, this game has some potential, it will take a lot of time and work to perfect it, but we shall see how things go.

Our goal by creating this "game" is for students to increase their ability to use strategy and think logically. By playing "WarTic" a person will increase their mathematical reasoning and be better able to solve problems consistent with logic.
