Project Title: Affects of Laser Pointers

We want to find out how long the human eye can last against a red laser beam from a hand held laser pointer without permanent or short-term damage. A hand held laser has is a class 3 laser. We are also trying to see what type of damage could be done by the laser pointer. We will be using a C++ program to determine this. We are making an equation to solve our problem using the variables, A for angle, and P for power output. We are doing this experiment because we want to inform laser pointer customers about how long it will take to harm the eye and what if any harm would be done.
We found out all lasers including laser pointers are grouped into four classes by their power. A class 1 laser totally safe on the other hand a class 4 laser is extremely dangerous. A more recent class 3 laser pointer could cause injury to the eye if viewed for less than a fourth of a second. This laser pointer can be almost or more dangerous as the sun. The new green laser pointer is now much greater than red laser pointers. A brief exposure to the laser pointer will cause temperary blindness, after images, reduced visual activity. Retinal burns may occur when the eye is exposed to the laser pointer for a longer time. This will not have permanent damage. There will be temperary discomfort if you get retinal burns. If a laser beam is delibertly directed into a person's eyes you'll be charged with assault with a weapon. We have been working on the equation and it is almost finished. We will probably have the equation by the middle of January.
