AiS Challenge STI Team Interim Report

Team Number: FOUR

School Name: Luxor High

Area of Science: Math/Probability

Project Title: Yahtzee

Why study Probability?

Probability is the prediction of occurrence of random events. The real life applications are broad and diverse. Gaming, Genetics, Safety, Business, Insurance, Weather.etc. We are using the idea of business and gaming for our model.

Our team has used Excel, Java, Inspiration, and Power Point to work on our project. We have developed a math model, programmed, and started our slide presentation.

We have found logic errors, fixed them, and re-programmed. We have developed our math model and will expand it. We have researched the history of dice, and have explored financial statements in the Casino Industry.

We have experienced computer dysfunction, time pressure, and frustration, but have functioned very well as a team, learning from each other.

We have many ideas for further development and extensions, such as: developing a psuedocode; adding comments to our code; analyzing our results; extension to 4 or 5 or more dice; extending to 3 rolls of the dice; adding % of change on the probability of each trial; condensing our code; put code into C++; Using MPI; graphing our results as a function of trials, and linking everything together.
