Welcome to the Summer Teacher Institute - Dreamweaver Class

This aspect of the Summer Institute will explore Web site management and design. Students will develop Web pages that will be integrated into a variety of Web interface strategies. Topics include HTML, page layout, tables, links, images, file formats, and site management, through the use of Macromedia Dreamweaver MX software.

The Phases of Web Site Management are centralized in five basic areas; planning, research, development, refinement and implementation. These five areas work as organizational frameworks for instruction and learning, Web site development and implementation, student progress and presentation. The scope and sequence of the content area matches the phases and allows for the integration of Macromedia Dreamweaver MX for concept mapping, word processing, Web browsing, HTML code editing and file transferring. The goal is to embed the use of the educational technology within a task of developing a Web Site using Dreamweaver MX and the tools of the Internet.

By the end of the instruction in Web Site Management, students should understand how to:

• Plan and lay out a Web site
• Work with the preferences and options of the Browser
• Create Web pages using Dreamweaver MX
• Add and alter text and lists
• Create links (relative, document relative, absolute)
• Define tags and use the Attribute = "Value" Relationship
• Place ownership on pages
• Create basic tables for data usage and layout
• Publish a Web site on the Internet using FTP

Macromedia Dreamweaver MX is a full-featured Web-design tool used by beginning and professional Web designers. Dreamweaver can be used in the design view, HTML code view or the split view, which allows the developer to see both the code and the document at the same time. The developer also has the ability to create and manage individual or multiple sites within Dreamweaver as well as define and maintain both local and remote Web pages through the Site Manager.
