SAN JUAN SHEILAS - TEAM #1

Welcome to our AiSC STI04 project web page. We hope you enjoy reading about our project and our results.

Clean Water is essential to the helath and welfare of a community. Many contaminants can be found in ground water and some of them can be very dangerous. Most of the uranium mining operations on the Navajo Nation Lands occurred during the Manhattan Project, which supported the nuclear weapons program at the Los Alamos National Laboratory during World War II. These mines are now closed, but their effects are still visible in the area.

Using research done by the EPA and others we studied the effects of the uranium mines on the groundwater. We made a mathematical model to show the flow of the hazardous/radioactive materials through the groundwater.
