Project Title:You Put What? In My Water?
Clean Water is essential to the helath and welfare of a community. Many contaminants
can be found in ground water and some of them can be very dangerous. It is important
to know what contaminants are in your water for the safety of yourself, your
children, and your community. Most of the uranium mining operations on the Navajo
Nation Lands occurred during the Manhattan Project, which supported the nuclear
weapons program at the Los Alamos National Laboratory during World War II. These
mines are now closed, but their effects are still visible in the area.
We plan to use research provided by the EPA and others to study the effects of the uranium mines on the groundwater. We are also planning to use Starlogo to show the flow of the hazardous/radioactive materials through the groundwater.
