Erosion Cost Simulation

Team: 45

School: LAS CRUCES HIGH

Area of Science: Geology

Proposal: We plan to simulate the costs of erosion. To do this, we plan to first determine erosion as a function of soil type, rainfall, raindrop size, incline, and land use. Then, we determine how much ends up in the body of water as the well as the economic costs of clogged dams and ruined farmland. Then, we will determine the energy and monetary cost of removing the eroded material from dams. Based on that information, we will determine the amount of land that must remain unused by man so the erosion removal costs become economically feasible, when one factors in the net loss of money due to unused land.
