The Generations of Drosophila

Proposal: The Generations Of Drosophila

Our project is over the breeding of fruit flies. It will model colonies of fruit flies and show how the traits of fruit flys are passed from generation to generation. We decided to do this project on fruit flys is because it will be a cheap way to show how to breed flys without the trouble of keeping them in cages.
We will have different populations of flies with unique combinations of eye color, wing shape, and body style. We are going to inter-breed them and find the traits of the result offsprings. We will use StarLogo and Java to make a model of our system. We will have different areas that contain the individual types of flies. We can then breed each of the flies to the others and statistically determine the offspring’s characteristics. Next we will turn equal amounts of each type of flies loose and let them inter-breed randomly to determine what treats survive to show up in the long run.
