A Hazard Situation During a Fire Evacuation

Team: 98

School: SANTA FE INDIAN SCHOOL

Area of Science: Computer Science

Proposal: Team #: 1056
School Name: Santa Fe Indian School
Area of Science: Computer Science
Project Title: A hazard situation on fire evacuation

Problem:
The High School dormitory at Santa Fe Indian School is split into two different sections: boys and girls. The girl’s wing consists of three floors, housing from twenty-two (22) to sixty (60) girls on each floor. During fire drills, a total of eighty-two (82) girls from all three girl’s floors escape through the single back stairway into a pitch-black, rocky pathway. In an actual fire, would this throng of girls escape safely from the dormitory? If so, would they be able to walk from the dormitory without any injuries to a designated area?
Purpose:
As proctors and residents of the dormitory, we are concerned about the safety of our peers and ourselves exiting the building in a fire evacuation emergency. We prognosticate if more lighting and different routines were used then girls would exit safely and quickly.
Procedure:
By using the resources available through the Head of Security and other SFIS administrators, we will collaborate on modeling the dormitory fire evacuations using StarLogo.
