Survivability of a jet engine while adjusting solid objects
Our project will predict the survivability of a turbo jet engine in a collision with a solid object. We will model the impact forces incurred on the low and high pressure vanes of a jet engine in an elastic collision with a deformable object. Our first step will be to research jet engine design and obtain information about the strengths of the vanes. From this information we will use the supercomputer to model the survivability of a jet engine for various collisions which will simulate bird strikes at various velocities and locations at various engine speeds. This information could potentially assist in the modification of existing engine designs to better compensate for bird strikes.
