Project Title:

Bridge Modeling

The purpose of our project is to create a real time model of the stresses on the individual members of a truss bridge, given the load on the bridge. We will simulate computer generated traffic patterns crossing the bridge, and calculate the bridge stresses as the traffic moves across the bridge. Our final program will allow the user to design a bridge and test the design. The user will be able to specify characteristics such as the tensile and compressive strength of the material used in the bridge, the size and mass of the individual bridge members, the span of the bridge, the placement of supports, etc. The user will also be able to specify the type and density of the traffic across the bridge. Our software will also be able to determine the cost of the simulated bridge design. We may also include the ability to determine the environmental impacts of the design.
