Solution: Computational approach: A 3-D matrix of uniform particles (water) will be created. A mass of pollutant particles will be placed in the center of the matrix. All particles will be put into random motion (Brownian). As the particles interact, new trajectories will be calculated revealing how the particles disperse.
Computer model: A 2-D model of particle interactions using elastic collision principals will be created. As the project continues, a 3-D model of particle interactions will be generated.
Progress: Finding a mentor and assistance in this area of science has been difficult. It has taken several months of searching the Internet to find the assistance we needed. During this time, we have studied the laws of physics which govern elastic collision and learned how to create 2-D arrays using C++ programming language.
Expected Results: A mass of pollutant particles will be placed at the center of the matrix. As time progresses the particles of water will interact (collide) with the pollutant particles and disperse, resulting in a uniform dispersion of pollutant particles throughout the matrix.
