From Mathematics to Computation
Four hours in length
10 students, at most 1 student from each team. No teachers.
This course is designed to help the student understand the various
details required in making a mathematical model into a computational
model. The student will learn Gaussian elimination in the natural
linear algebra manner. The student will then develop code in
either C or FORTRAN to accomplish Gaussian elimination in a
computational model.
The students will be expected to form groups and work with each other,
debugging their code and testing the code with examples.
The goal of this course is to expose the student to an extensive
example. The successful student should come prepared to work
for several hours (with few breaks). It is expected that the
student has some basic experience with C or FORTRAN.
