Challenge Team Abstract

Team Number: 044 School Name: Shiprock High School Area of Science: Engineering Project Title: Out with the old Pit, In with the new Pit.

We are planning to remodel the Shiprock High School "Chieftain Pit" Gymnasium. We are going to take four cornered walls that are supporting the roof of the pit, and install more bleachers for the V.I.P./reserve section. We are to have balconies, for more restrooms, and more exits. We are also planning to reduce the crowded areas, such as the entrance and exit, and the concessions. To do this, we have to rearrange the concession stands at the east entrance to where the customers enter one side, and out the other into the pit. On the west side, we are planning to put in a Press Box for the invited guests, and for video taping the games that take place within the pit. Right now there is nothing constructed in that area. The Press Box will now be placed above the bleachers, to replace the big wall that serves no purpose. We shall make use of this space.
