Executive Summary

The purpose of this project was to make our gymnasium (Chieftain Pit) less congested. Right now, our gymnasium gets over crowded during school related events, such as basketball games, wrestling tournaments, graduation. In the time of these events, we have people standing in the four corners of the building which is not safe.

The final analysis that we have done is that we have used "CAD" to present a future simulation of how the "Pit" would look after we have added our ideas in the final out-look.

Introduction

Architectural and engineering firm Lescher and Mahoney built the "Pit" in 1987. The contractors are CDK contracting co. General Contractor Industrial mechanical Inc. and CDK contracting co. Electrical. Since, the "Pit" was built so long ago what we were thinking is that since the "Pit" is that old that maybe the contractors designed the "Pit" according to the population. However, the population has supposedly grown and that is why it gets crowded in the "Pit." So, that's why our team decided on remodeling the "Chieftain Pit" to cut down in the congestion caused by the crowd.

Statement of the Problem

Our project dealt with the problem of over crowding in the Chieftain Pit which might lead to personal safety considerations.

The safety of our crowd that are invited to "The Pit" is our main concern. So, to make the crowd feel safer, that is why we plan to remodel "The Pit."

Description of Method

Our team got into contact with some local architects and engineers. They gave us a few ideas and pointers. So, to solve our problem we decided to make a simulation of how "The Pit" would look after we make a few changes. We are going to use our ideas and present it on "CAD." Our presentation will include the simulation from "CAD" that include the data gathered from our team and advisors.

Results

What we have done, is we've came to our conclusion to figuring out what the pit will or may look like after this takes place. This "CAD" program shows the diagram of what the "Pit" will look like in the near future and what it's looks like now. To solve the problem of overcrowding in the "Pit" during any event that takes place in the gymnasium. The four cornered walls that support the ceiling will be replaced with balconies that we are installing. The north side will have a press box at the top of the bleachers that will hold more media, and special guest that come to the "Pit." The concession stands will be moved to the east side to relieve overcrowding and the wrestling room will be expanded. To make the arena a safer place to be.

The Conclusion

The problem with the "Chieftain Pit" is that there is no safety for the crowd. The "Pit" is okay now, but what we want to emphasize is how more efficient the building could be. So, our design was more "human friendly."

We tried to come up with a graphic design using the software "CAD." To come up with the design we combined all of our ideas and the ideas of the others into one program. The graphic design will show the way the "Pit" looks now and how it looks after we have changed a few things. The "CAD" program is our solution to the problem occurring in the "Pit."

Significant Original Achievements

In the beginning of this project we weren't sure on what project to do but we decided to pick, remodeling the "Chieftain Pit." However, from our research, we were unable to do more than we anticipated. But we did become mare aware of the surroundings in the "Pit." Another important learning experience is our achievement to work as a team. It's a very important factor that helped to the completion of this project. We worked together to make this project more exciting.

Acknowledgements

Team 044 would like to take this opportunity to thank the following people:

Mary Hines: Who went to some of our presentations, supported us, and gave us confidence to get up there and present without being nervous. A Big Thank You!

Alicia Stewart: She was a last minute Advisor, who gave us good ideas on how to make our gymnasium a more convenient place. She also pointed us on where to go, and whom to ask. A Big Thank You!

Carl Bickford: Thank you for helping us with our project, by giving us a good direction on where, and who to turn to if we had any trouble. A Big Thank You!

Delphine John: Thank you for being our sponsor.

Cecil Linnens: Thank You for letting us use the Tech Lab to try and do our model.

The judges: Thank you for giving us good advice on how to make our project more presentable. Thank you to the people that helped create and organize the Super Computing Challenge. This was a fun experience and we hope to do it next year.

Thanks to our parents for giving us money to go to these events in far away places. Thanks Mommy and Daddy, and maybe other relatives.
