Project Title: The Impact of Public Usage on Land

Abstract

Introduction

Everywhere you look, you see the effects of public land use. You see it on our streets, in our homes, and in our parks. We have been studying the effects of public land use in order to see if we could change anything that might make our land last longer.

Negative Effects

The negative effects of our use of land are things like erosion, soil pollution, water pollution, and in some cases, large scale destruction, so far that the land will probably never be used again. We also plant humongous refineries and plants and such all over the place, and these wonders of human ingenuity rarely ever disappear. This can effect land very badly, for if those things sit there for a thousand years or more(in which they probably will, or at least their remains), the soil underneath can never be used again.

Positive Effects

The positive effects of our land use are twofold: the positive effects for humans, and the positive effects for the land. Some of the positive effects for humans are that it gives us places to live, gives us ground to grow food, and places for us to go. The positive effects for the land can be in some cases, less land erosion, more trees and plants for cleaner air, and even richer, more fertile soil.

Our Studies

So far, we haven't gotten much done, for our main advisor has quit and the project was put on hold for a while. But when we get back to school from Christmas break, we intend on taking digital pictures of surrounding areas where the land has been used and where it is unused. We also intend on taking samples of dirt and flora from each area. We will then take the data, store, compare and correlate it, then make accurate models of our findings. We then hope to take these assessments and try to work them into laws for better use of our land. We only have one Earth, after all.
