    School Name: Cimarron High School

    Area of Science: Physics

    Project Title: Moonquakes

Abstract
Interim
Final Report

Our team plans to simulate moonquakes and their effects on the moon's surface. We are currently researching asteroids that may strike the moon, the moon's surface and composition, models of earthquakes we could apply to the moon, and the way shock waves spread. Our model will be a three dimension grid of a sphere.

We predict that mainly asteroids that strike the moon cause moonquakes, but we are not sure if there are any other factors that contribute to moonquakes. Research at this point is sketchy. Although we have found interesting information about the moon's composition through the Internet, we may need to spend time in a real library in order to find the information we need on asteroids and the physics of moonquakes. Fortunately, we can spend Our time on this research because roughly 75 percent of our program is already complete. All we need to do is find and implement the proper information.

This information will be useful if there are ever any colonies on the moon. By knowing more about moonquakes scientists would be able to prepare in a more effective manner for the rigors of living on the moon. We plan to use satellite data on the moon and impacts that have occurred there. Then we hope to model them compared to earthquakes on earth.
