Area of Science: Oceanography and Physics

Abstract: Tsunami is a Japanese word that means, "harbor wave". The word tsunami is now used to refer to any series of long waves that are generated by a rapid, large-scale disturbance of the sea floor. The purpose of this project is to understand the properties of a tsunami, develop the mathematics describing the behavior of the wave, and develop an improved understanding of the physical properties of a tsunami wave in shallow waters as the wave approaches a beach.
