Modeling the Efficiency of Alternative Resources

Team: 21

School: BOSQUE SCHOOL

Area of Science: Environmental Sciences

Proposal: Our project is to model the efficiency of alternative energy resources verses traditional methods of power production. We plan to first focus on wind power, verses coal power, using C++ to model this problem. With our energy crisis going on, we need to find ecologically friendly, alternative methods of producing power. Alternative resources, including wind, hydroelectric, solar, and geothermal energy among others, are more environmentally conscience than conventional means. To do this, we will first gather information on wind power and coal power. Then we will model the conversion of the two to energy, and compare the results. We also want to look at other aspects, such as cost, environmental effects, and space needed, among others to better understand which methods are more beneficial. We expect our results to show that alternative resources are more beneficial; in hope that the information could be used to promote the use of renewable energy.
