Prosecuting the Pit Bull

Team: 41

School: JACKSON MIDDLE SCHOOL

Area of Science: zoology

Proposal: There is great animosity towards pit bulls, mostly caused by the fact that they are taken advantage of in their environment. In most cases, it is not the fault of the actual animal; it is the fault of the irresponsible owner who has mistreated the dog, often used as fighting dogs. These dogs are not monsters, they're simply misunderstood.
We plan to research these dogs by observing their behavior towards people and other dogs in a local animal shelter. We also plan to use information gathered from employees at the animal shelter. We want to use Starlogo as our model to discover patterns in the number of pit bulls that are rescued and euthanized in the animal shelters.
We plan to use Starlogo to represent the number of people who have any sort of animosity towards pit bulls (we will gather this information through surveying 200 people) and the number of pit bulls in shelters, then seeing how decreasing the number of people who do not like pit bulls or pit bull mixes in animal shelters.
