A Cleaner LifeTeam: 77 School: NAVAJO PREPARATORY Area of Science: Environmental Science
Proposal: On the Navajo Reservation, water has always been a major source of life; however, this water has not always been completely sanitary. Unsanitary water can result in diseases such as: Shigella, (fecal-oral contamination) a potentially dangerous case of diarrhea, Escherichia Coli (E. coli) and other dangerous waterborne diseases. In our project, we will attempt to distribute, clean, and find the most effective way to sanitize water through certain computer algorithms, programs and filtering systems. If effective this project could potentially, with the support of the Navajo people and their Chapters, turn into a community wellness effort.
To complete this project with as much success as possible, we will have to take samples from different sites on the Navajo Reservation, and test to see what different kinds of pollutants are in the water. To Neutralize these potentially harmful pollutants, we will have to find, for each pollutant, the certain counter-chemicals to make the water safe to consume. We will also use solar panels to make to filtering system as economically friendly as possible.
