Team 047 Abstract

Team Number: 047 School Name: Los Alamos High School Area of Science: Naval Science Project Title: The Mapping of Underwater Objects Utilizing Sonar

The ultimate goal of our project is to create a map of the bottom of a body of water, i.e. an ocean, a lake, or whatever. We will attempt to do some pattern recognition on this map to search for man made objects.

We are going to use the data from a SACLANT sonar array for the data to map the floor of the ocean off of the coast of Italy. We are going to search for man made objects by searching for straight lines, or curves that are "too perfect", or other signs that this was not made by nature.
