Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or COPD, is an umbrella term for various diseases that block airflow to the lungs and cause breathing difficulties. There are different medications that individuals can take to alleviate the symptoms of COPD, such as anticholinergics and diverse corticosteroids. Furthermore, there are risk factors, such as pollution and cigarette usage, that can contribute to the development of COPD and other respiratory issues. Our tentative project question is as follows: How can various factors present in a population with COPD or other respiratory ailments affect how long an affected individual can use specific medications for those diseases? To explore this problem, we intend to find a drug toxicity dataset, compile information about the risk factors and treatments of COPD, and create a machine-learning model to predict the length of time that someone with COPD (or other respiratory illnesses) can safely use a medication based on inputted factors.
