CommuniEats 25-26 Proposal

Supercomputer Challenge Project Proposal

Project Title: CommuniEats (continued)

Team Members: Mekhi Bradford, Marcy Lee Baires

Organization: Justice Code, National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) Pre-College Initiative

As of 2025, food insecurity remains a persistent social ecological issue in North America, affecting over 13% of households, with New Mexico experiencing disproportionately high rates of food insecurity compared to the national average (food insecurity affects 1 in 5 children and 1 in 7 adults in New Mexico). Building on last year’s research and development, we plan to expand on this project and further develop our conceptual app, CommuniEats.

CommuniEats is a conceptual app my teammate and I began developing in 2024 to address food insecurity in New Mexico. The project aims to reduce hunger by getting food to communities before it goes to waste through a discreet, delivery-based platform. This year, we’re focused on growing the project by working more closely with experts and improving the app’s design. We plan to work with groups like Roadrunner Food Bank to help expand the project. We’ll also gather input from health researchers, community leaders, and other experts to make sure CommuniEats explores both the immediate need for food and the deeper issues that cause hunger.
