A Computational Approach to 9 x 9 Go

There are a lot of people who want to get into the game Go, but are intimidated by the size of the board and possible moves you can make. We hope to make a program that can guide new players in playing the game. This would be on a 9x9 mini board because it would lower the amount of moves that you can make, thus it would be less intimidating, and supercomputers don’t have the power to run a program for a complete board. We are also using the 9x9 board because it is the most common mini board that is used when playing Go. We are also doing this to see how a map of the solution would look. We were planning to code an algorithm that would find this for us, as it’s not realistically possible to find anything meaningful without using computers. An added benefit of this project is that it tests the computing power of computers, as supercomputers couldn’t do the calculations for a full sized Go board. We think that this project will end up being very interesting and hopefully helpful to new players looking to get into the game.
