Modeling the Environmental Resource Use of Data Centers

There has been a rise in discourse about data centers and their effect on the environment. The people who are against them say they will use an excessive amount of natural resources that will be taken from the surrounding nature and people. The advocates say that data centers will not waste resources and instead will be an economic boost for the region they're in. This is especially a concern in New Mexico as water is becoming an increasingly important and scarce resource. We will model the electricity, land and water usage of data centers of various sizes and technology. We plan to build the model and data image in python using the matplotlib library. Our variables will be the input vs usage of electricity and water when looking at different sizes and hardware within the centers. We hope that this provides valuable information for the public and officials to vote on data centers issues with knowledge and for the companies who create them to continue developing more efficient practices.
