Learn together before the season starts

The Summer Teacher Institute is a recurring professional learning opportunity held before the Supercomputing Challenge season begins. It gives educators space to explore computational science, trade classroom ideas, and build confidence supporting student teams.

The 2027 program is being planned now. Dates, location, schedule, and any cost details will be announced in spring.

Look back at STI 2026

In July 2026, educators spent a week at New Mexico Tech exploring NetLogo, classroom modeling, and Challenge project design.

Expect hands-on examples, time with peers, and useful starting points you can take back to students. No prior programming experience is required.

Computational science starts with good questions, practical tools, and a community of educators.

Computational science in the classroom

Connect real-world questions with models, data, and age-appropriate project ideas.

A stronger start to the Challenge season

Meet other educators and leave with a clearer path for guiding students from an idea to a finished project.

Who it is for

The institute is designed for middle school and high school educators, including teachers new to the Challenge, returning team sponsors, and STEM coordinators looking for fresh ways to support student-led inquiry.

Come curious. The institute is designed to meet educators where they are and help them take the next useful step.
