Proposal: My team and I have always been artistic, and this year we have decided to do a project on how individuals perceive the color yellow. We will discuss how different age groups and genders distinguish the color yellow based upon how the color yellow is produced on a computer screen. This is done by combining the pixels for Red, Green, and Blue (RGB). Slight modifications of these primary color percentages can produce perceptible changes, and some changes that are hard to notice.
The main part of our project will be a statistical analysis of how different segments of the population might differ in their abilities to perceive the changes produced and displayed. This will be done by displaying a screen split into four quarters, and having ONE of the sections show a very slight variation of the color yellow. By seeing what changes have to be made to allow an individual to correctly see the 'different one', we can analyze what personal factors might be playing a part. Some questions we will ask of all who try the study will be things such as the following:
Age; Gender; Eye Color; Vision Level (ie. 20-20);
Education level; Career; and self reported personality.
This information will allow us to do a statistical analysis of the data we collect.
We will also discuss how yellow is different on a computer screen than it is in person and lastly we will provide the statistics for the examples we provide.
