Proposal: In a court of law, the traditional lie detector, which identifies physiological characteristics such as heart rate, is not admissible. This is because factors such as heart rate and perspiration can indicate anxiety rather than deception. Our solution is to create another form of polygraph which uses facial recognition to look for “tells” that indicate that a person may be lying, that can be used on its own or in conjunction with the traditional polygraph machine. We hope that our program may improve the accuracy of lie detector tests and help to thwart deception. This program will be coded through Python, and we will use documented research on facial recognition and common “tells” of deception that we will code our program to search for. We will also utilize the Python library to look for code that may be useful to our program.
