Proposal: The problem being studied is the reliability of current fire drill protocols in place. The importance of this is that if an exit or exits are blocked by fire or other barriers, students will be trained on how to still make an efficient exit. The plan is to first making a computer model on NetLogo. Then, the results will be compared to current fire drill results with all doors open, making a control group. Then the model will be modified until it agrees with the control group. This will be hopefully tested at Cyber Academy if agreed upon by school officials. If this experiment is allowed, to ensure the subjects act as if it is a real fire, they will only be informed about which door is blocked off 30 seconds before hand or not at all. Cyber Academy is a good model for this because there can be a real response only once from a group of people, so the experiment can be run on high school and if they can keep the secret, it can also with the middle school. This is a unique and rare opportunity since there is two different groups of people for the same building. This will test the program's efficiency and allow for manipulation to account for real-world behaviors. The program will collect data using 4 doors, 3 doors, 2 doors, and 1 door open to test the most effective strategy. With this, lives of students, teachers, and staff can be saved.
