A curve or geometric figure, each part of which has the same statistical character as the whole. Fractals are useful in modeling structures (such as eroded coastlines or snowflakes) in which similar patterns recur at progressively smaller scales, and in describing partly random or chaotic phenomena such as crystal growth, fluid turbulence, and galaxy formation. Without crystals, we would not be able to understand the structures of compounds. As a group, we hope to understand more about the structures of compounds. To do this we plan to make a fractal representing crystals. To make the fractal we will be using NetLogo. We will meet once or twice a week to work on this.
