Microplastics Affect on Algae Respiration

How do microplastics affect algae respiration and production of oxygen? 

Algae is a very important oxygen supplier globally. We hope to be able to model how microplastics affect the algae's ability to photosynthesis and produce oxygen. Microplastics are found all around the world invading every aspect of life. We want to model how microplastics affect algae in different situations manipulating the amount of plastic to see the effects. We hope to have a better understanding on how microplastics affect algae in order to address the problem. 

We are going to grow algae to experiment on and collect data. We will add microplastics in the water and record the results. We will use the data we collect to refine our python model. In order to completely solve this problem we would have to stop using plastic entirely. We hope that by understanding the plastic that has the most devastating effects we will be better able to address the problem and design the best solution.
