The Efficiency of Magnetic Transportation
One of the current problems of the world is public transportation. Public transportation today can oftentimes be either expensive and/or inefficient in getting someone to their destination. We believe that magnetic levitation can be a method of transit that will assist in fixing the problem of public transportation. The science of Magnetic Repulsion and Propulsion can revolutionize the transportation industry. When two of the same magnetic poles are facing each other, they then repel each other, thereby creating a magnetic field in-between. Micro thrusters can then be used to propel the transit vehicle forward. We can use magnetic levitation to propel cars, trains, and maybe even buses. Currently, in Japan there is a Magnetic Levitating train called the Bullet Train. Since the train is levitating above the ground there is little to no friction which creates both an extremely fast and smooth riding experience. The Bullet Train can also reach speeds up to 150 mph (240 kmph). The only problem is that to have an effective magnet it needs to have a core temperature of −196.2 °C (−321.1 °F). Our team is trying to find all of the details on how to fix the problem of the required low temperatures of magnets. We also want to find the magnet-to-force ratio (How much a single magnet can hold). We will use different websites to simulate the magnet’s strength and will also make a model of a magnetic track to test our hypothesis.
