Developing a helping hand

Proposal: Developing a Helping Hand

Problem:
Many disabled or handicapped people in the world need help at home and there might not be someone there to help them. They can’t afford an assistant or their family is unable to help them. Other types of people may need help too like pregnant or old people. “26% of adults in the US or 1 in 4 adults are handicapped.” (“OKEENEA”)

Importance:
This is an important problem because a disabled or handicapped can get seriously hurt or injured because they don’t have the help they need. House chores become something they are incapable of doing leaving their living spaces chaotic, tarnished or dull.

The plan:
I hope to program a robot that can help the handicapped or disabled. To do this I am going to program a remote controlled robot, a Vex V5 programmed in python. My goal for this project is to program a helpful robot that can assist people in need. To get the results needed I will run many experiments with different variables like different surroundings and different objects to maneuver. I will collect my results and improve areas that my robot might fail in. I don’t expect the design to work immediately so I will make changes to it over time to help it surmount its environment.
