Area of Science: Nuclear Physics
Proposal: Purpose (Action)
The purpose of this project is to find a solution on how we can store radioactive waste more safely without harming others/the environment. The current method for storing the radioactive material can spill and leak causing genetic problems for animals and people. Additionally it is expensive, it has to be stored for thousands of years. This information is important for making the environment a safer and secure place. We hope the result can help improve the current conditions it is being stored in.
What materials could be used to store radioactive waste better/safer and cost effectively?
We are going to start our research with how it is currently stored. Then we are going to model how radiation affects different materials. We are going to find a mentor to help us with modeling the containers.
What is Radioactive waste?
Radioactive waste is one of many harmful substances to our environment. Radioactive waste is made out of uranium that has been used in nuclear powder and it’s no longer efficient. It also has affected our society in many ways.
