Proposal: Several kids in New Mexico do not receive a proper introduction to STEM, and even if they do, it is not being taught in a way that they can truly understand. Interest in STEM will open many doors in science/math-related fields for kids and lead to a higher quality of life for them. Our plan is to give elementary and middle school students a basic introduction to programming by using skills we already have in the field. We want to teach different classes in each grade differently; ie one class would receive an auditory presentation while another would receive a kinetic-based presentation, and the third, a visual. We will then record the data through surveys, observation, etc. This data can then be used to help give teachers a better understanding of how STEM can be taught to their students, as well as show us how learning progresses through age.
