Home Scale Aquaculture

Team: 46

School: Melrose High

Area of Science: Agriculture

Proposal: Our team is planning a project based in the use of small scale aquaculture systems. Specifically, we intend to build and operate a system based upon 275 gallons totes which is commonly used for agriculture materials. These totes are cut down to allow for a floating growing surface for plants, and a lower container that can be used to raise fish. We are basing the system on the types proven to work by the Santa Fe Community College's greenhouse program. Inn addition, we want to build a computer simulation will both be used to help us make decisions about the future operation and construction of home based small scale aquaponics operations.

Mentors: Students and faculty from the Santa Fe Community College have pledged to work with us on our actual aquaponics system, and then our teacher will help us with the NetLogo model. Luckily, some of us have some basic coding experience using that language.
